About
Scott Truchot
I write young adult science fiction about the kids who notice the seams.
I spent most of my career designing and selling complex technical systems that were supposed to work perfectly. You learn things doing that. You learn that every system tells two stories — the confident one in the brochure, and the quieter one about where it actually gives. You learn that the person who spots the gap is almost never the person in charge of the system. And you learn that most people, handed something that mostly works, will stop looking.
The Lira Voss series started with a question I couldn't put down: what does a genius do on a planet where every problem has already been solved for her? Elysara isn't a boot on anyone's neck. It's a cushion. It's kind, it's competent, it works exactly as designed — which turns out to be a far more interesting cage to write a fourteen-year-old out of than any dystopia I could have built. Lira is smarter than the world that raised her. She has spent her entire life making sure nobody finds out.
I live near Seattle with my family, none of whom have been able to independently verify that I am not the smartest person alive either.
How To Get Caught is my first novel. It will not be my last.
